One of my classmates mass emailed the class with a link to a highly addictive game… at first I thought it was an innocent and novel game that might perk my interest for a couple hours at most before I would move on to more important things. It turns out that our entire class has been consumed by this game and at the worst possible time when all our projects are due! In the last 3 weeks, probably 50 people in our class has gotten hooked and have spent at least 20-30 hours trying to beat the game and beat each other’s scores. A safe estimate spent this past month on this game is around 2000 person-hours.
In brief, it’s a simple flash-based web game called Desktop Tower Defense in which ‘creeps’ enter from two sides of a blank map and your job is to kill them before they leave the map on the other side. You can do this by building different towers to create a maze in which creeps travel through to get out while you attack. Towers include long-range snipers, quick-firing towers, frost towers, stunning towers, anti-air missiles, etc… Plus you can upgrade towers as you make money from beating creeps. The swarm of creeps just keep coming level after level and get progressively stronger each type with special attributes. I won’t say anymore but if you’re looking for a study break or can’t sleep at night, check it out… The perfect procrastination tool.
